Marvão Airshow 2026: times, viewing areas and practical guide

The first Marvão Airshow takes place on Sunday, 6 September 2026, with six aircraft and two hours of aerobatics over an unusual mountain setting.

The essentials

The display runs from 15:00 to 17:00 and admission is free. Marvão Municipality names Marvão Castle, Portagem and Santo António das Areias as the main places from which to watch the six aircraft. No event-specific traffic restrictions, parking plan or shuttle service has yet been published.

What is confirmed for 6 September

The municipal announcement describes an inaugural display involving six aircraft, including historic planes, and aerial manoeuvres around Marvão's walls. It is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, from 15:00 to 17:00, with free admission.

The organisers say that the display will be visible from different parts of the municipality. A detailed flying order and any operational changes have not yet been published, so check the official page before setting out.

Where to watch the Marvão Airshow

The three officially highlighted areas are Marvão Castle, Portagem and Santo António das Areias. The announcement does not assign different routines to each area or promise exactly the same view from every point.

Choose your viewing area with slopes, cobbles and your group's mobility in mind. The castle provides the setting of the historic walls but requires entering the hilltop old town; Portagem and Santo António das Areias are alternatives named by the organiser.

  • Marvão Castle: the walled setting, with steep and cobbled routes through the village.
  • Portagem: an official viewing area in the lower part of the municipality.
  • Santo António das Areias: the third official area from which to follow the display.

Planning the trip from Castelo de Vide

Marvão is a short drive from Castelo de Vide, but the event falls on a Sunday. The current TAAPedido route between the two towns is published only for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, so it does not cover this date. Arrange a car, taxi or another confirmed option in advance.

No special car parks, road closures or traffic plan for the Airshow have been announced. Do not assume that parking will be available beside the castle, and check municipal updates during the days before the event.

How to fit the event into a weekend

A balanced plan is to spend Saturday exploring Castelo de Vide's historic centre, Jewish Quarter and castle, then reserve Sunday afternoon for the Airshow. Keep Sunday morning light so that you can reach your chosen viewing area with time to spare.

Casa da Rua Nova is in Castelo de Vide's historic centre and can serve as a base for visiting both towns. Bring suitable hearing protection for young children or anyone sensitive to loud noise: aerobatic aircraft can be very loud.
